Our politics and policies must reflect our core values as a nation by promoting basic democratic principles, recognizing the contributions of all communities to this nation, rejecting the exploitation of workers, and holding politicians accountable for real solutions to the issues facing our nation. As a nation, we are facing a clear choice about what side of history we will be on.
It is time to build America together. It is time to stand up to the politicians and commentators who are fanning the flames of insecurity and prejudice in ways that contribute to racial and ethnic hostility. It is time to stand in unity on a debate that threatens to divide Americans on other critical issues facing our nation, such as the increasing divide between the rich and poor, worker justice, healthcare for all, access to quality education, fair and humane immigration reform, civil liberties, and the environment. It is time we say NO to the politics of division and YES to bringing America together.
I commit to stand for America’s finest ideas and core community values and publicly reject the politics of division and isolation that fan anger and hate against any person or community. I will work towards restoring our shared values in order to achieve our shared dreams for the future and to create a just, equitable, and sustainable society for all.
